New Study by Illuminas & CEA Explores the Multi-Device Lifestyle, Impact on Consumer Electronics Industry

By the end of 2013, there will be more mobile-connected devices on Earth than there are people, a recent forecast suggests.  Consumer use of mobile devices has skyrocketed in the last two years, with the average person now owning five devices between home and work.  And while this trend is expected to continue, it’s not clear precisely how this proliferation of devices may influence consumer usage of other standalone devices such as digital cameras, MP3 players and GPS devices, just to name a few.

12141mrdcoverforwirelessstudyTo better understand this mobile proliferation and the complexities of a multi-screen lifestyle, the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) commissioned Illuminas to conduct a large-scale quantitative research study among US consumers.  The study, which is available to CEA members or for purchase on their website, provides insights into how and why consumers are using smartphones and tablets, how mobile devices are impacting use and future purchase intent for standalone consumer electronic devices, and ways the consumer electronics industry can continue to compete in today’s multi-screen landscape.

Highlights from the study were published in this recent press release by the CEA, and the full report is available free to CEA member companies at members.CE.org. Non-members may purchase the study in the CEA store.
